Available Grants & Funding Opportunities

RDA Peel holds information on many grants available to community groups. The following are just a few current grants and funding opportunities available, however if your group needs funding for purposes other than general administration costs and overheads, please contact us direct to discuss your situation. Please use the links for more information and relevant grant guidelines and applications.

Environmental Community Grants 2011 - State Government
The Western Australian Government is committed to helping communities and individuals undertake conservation projects which have environmental benefits. The Government will allocate $1.53 million in grants this year to help with projects involving:

  • biodiversity conservation ($500,000);
  • sustainable catchment management ($300,000);
  • rescue and rehabilitation of injured or incapacitated fauna ($50,000);
  • interpretation and sustainable recreation in natural areas ($180,000);
  • regional parks ($105,000);
  • Bush Forever sites ($75,000);
  • support for major conservation/environmental organisations ($120,000); and
  • protection of high-value areas by landholders on private land ($200,000).

It is intended that the grants will encourage contributions from other funding sources and help undertake projects. Funds are to be expended within the 2011/12 financial year.

Applications are currently open and close 4pm Thursday, 7 April 2011.

Regional Arts Fund - Australian Government
The Regional Arts Fund is an Australian Government initiative supporting the arts in regional, rural and very remote/isolated Australia. The program is delivered in partnership with Country Arts WA.

  • Cash for your arts project - Projects and Residencies: funding to support your community to work with professional artists, arts workers or cultural leaders to create innovative, quality artwork, whilst developing partnerships and creative skills. Apply for $3,000 to $25,000.
  • Work with your Arts Hero - Mentorship Program: funding to assist individuals or groups to be mentored by a professional artist, arts worker or arts organisation. Emerging artists can apply for up to $15,000 and career artists up to $30,000.

Applications are now open and close on Friday, 11 March 2011.

McDonald's GWN Junior Sports Trust
MGJST has been developed to provide regional schools, junior sporting teams, junior sporting clubs and junior sporting associations with equipment or funding to increase participation in a chosen sport, thereby encouraging the habit of a healthy lifestyle amongst young Australians living in regional Western Australia.

Applicants must demonstrate they fit within the following set of criteria:

  • Must be a not for profit organisation
  • Must reside, and the sport must predominantly operating within regional Western Australia.

An application may only be made in writing on the Application Form which can be obtained from your local regional McDonald's restaurant or online (see more information). An amount of $60,000 in total is available for the financial year of 2010/11 and are distributed over four applications rounds, with two rounds still available:

  • Funding Round 3: 1 February 2011 - 30 April 2011
  • Funding Round 4: 1 May 2011 - 30 June 2011

Social Innovation Grants Program - State Government
Social innovation is all about developing new ideas, such as products, services or models, that will better meet social needs and bring social benefits to the community. To be socially innovative, an organisation must understand the needs of the community it serves and be willing to try new strategies to meet those needs in a more tailored and targeted way. It is widely acknowledged that not-for-profit community sector organisations are best placed to understand and meet the needs of local communities.
The program aims to make effective changes to community services by:

  • helping establish effective action to better meet the needs of the WA community
  • helping community sector organisations develop and trial new way of delivering services to produce better outcomes
  • applying the most effective ideas to other service delivery areas facing similar challenges
  • promoting the development of strategic partnerships between community sector organisations
  • demonstrating collaboration and partnership between the public and community sectors.

Applications close 5.30pm Thursday, 31 March 2011.

Heathways Healthy Club Sponsorships - Winter 2011
Incorporated club playing in a recognised sporting competition over the Winter 2011 season may apply to receive up to $2,500 for initiatives to address health issues within the club (eg smoking, nutrition, alcohol and injury prevention), as well as specific education and training initiatives.

Applications are currently open and close 5pm Monday, 21 February 2011.

Community Notice Board

Lease of Office Space - 2 Tuart Avenue, Mandurah
The City of Mandurah is calling for registrations of interest for full-time occupancy of office space for community groups situation at 2 Tuart Avenue, Mandurah.  Eleven (11) offices of varied sizes will be available in early July 2011 in a building with a total size of about 400 square metres. Use of common share reception, conference and waiting areas are also available.

A site visit has been organised for Wednesday, 16 February 2011, between 9am and 12noon. All group interested in submitting an application must first register to attend the site visit. A licence to occupy will need to be entered into with the City of Mandurah incorporating a licence fee and contributions towards outgoing costs, including cleaning, electricity, water and refuse collection. Proposed tenure is four years until June 2015.

Closing date for submissions is 4pm, 25 February 2011 (no late submissions will be accepted).

Federal Government - Consultation paper on national NFP regulator released
The Assistant Treasurer and the Minister for Social Inclusion have released a consultation paper, 'Scoping study for a national not-for-profit regulator'. The paper seeks comment on the goals and scope of national regulation for the not-for-profit, and on the functions and form of a national regulator.

Interested parties are invited to make comment on the paper by Friday, 25 February 2011.

Australian Taxation Office - Support for Community Groups
Last year the ATO investigated how it can make its website easier to navigate and more user-friendly for not-for-profit organisation to find out about issues which as income tax exemption, deductible gift recipient status and goods and services tax obligations. 

An information link for not-for-profit organisations has been set up, being freecall 1300 130 248 or the devoted webpage for not-for-profit issues which can be found on www.ato.gov.au/nonprofit, where you can sign up for email updates on relevant tax issues via the Non-Profit News Service.

Federal Government - NBN Inquiry Submission
The Parliament of Australia House of Representatives 'Standing Committee of Infrastructure and Communications' has commenced a new enquiry to examine the capacity of the National Broadband Network to contribute to, delivery of government services and programs; health outcomes; education resources; management of built and natural resources and environmental sustainability; regional economic growth and employment opportunities; amongst other key areas (for a full list refer below website).

The Committee welcomes the views of your organisation and submissions need to be sent before Friday, 25 February, 2011 via email ic.reps@aph.gov.au.

Recent Successful Peel Grant Recipients

LOTTERYWEST - NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2010
In November/December 2010, Lotterywest made 81 grants totaling over $5 million.

  • Boddington Community Newsletter Inc. $9,809 for information technology to support the Boddington Community Newsletter.
  • City of Mandurah $10,000 towards equipment hire for the 2011 Challenge Seven Crab Fest to be held on the Mandurah foreshore 12 & 13 March 2011.
  • Mandurah Community Care Inc. $5,000 towards a strategic plan for this organisation which provides a range of community based support services to frail older people, younger people with disabilities and their carers.
  • Peel Community Legal Services (Inc.) $9,505 for an IT upgrade to enhance community legal services in the Peel region.
  • Serpentine-Jarrahdale Grammar School (Inc.) - Police Cadet Unit $11,320 towards furniture and property improvements to support activities of the Police Cadet Unit.
  • Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale $7,181 towards the Shire of SJ Australia Day celebrations being held at the Serpentine Camping Centre in January 2011.

FRRR - CARA (Caring for Ageing in Rural Australia) 2010

  • Quambie Park Waroona Inc. $4,000 towards a non denominational Chapel/Quiet Room

DEPT. FOR COMMUNITIES - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY GRANT

  •  Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire  $500 towards Centenary of International Women's Day 2011 - Morning Tea event to celebrate, and recognise, the value of women in the shire over the past 100 years by hosting a morning tea which will be open to all members of the community.

 COLES SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS - 2010

  • 32 Schools within the Peel region participated in the program, redeeming points for free sports gear for use within School hours.
